Yunnan Menghai Passion Fruit Planting Began To Take Shape, The Output Of More Than 9000 Tons

On December 21, 2024, the People's Government of Menghai County hosted a Passion Fruit tasting event in Kunming.

The expert group of Yunnan Tropical Crop Science Research Institute pointed out that Menghai Passion fruit has beautiful fruit shape, moderate size, golden smooth and glossy peel, delicate and juicy pulp, pure sweet and not sour and astringent, just right, unique flavor, rich nutrition, with high edible value and market development potential.

Menghai County, with its unique climate and soil conditions, provides an ideal growth environment for passion fruit. Menghai Passion fruit seeds from Colombia, after five years of selection, finally cultivated. The variety now being promoted is named Mengre No. 1, which is currently being approved by the National Variety Certification Committee. Passion fruit has the characteristics of rich fruit flavor, pure sweet taste, instant pinch, storage, and so on, the average yield of 800 kg per mu. However, the planting conditions are harsh, and there are strict requirements for altitude, climate, light, temperature, etc., which require no cold winter and no hot summer, and some places in Menghai can just meet these requirements.

In recent years, under the active promotion of Menghai County government and county Agriculture and Rural Bureau, Menghai passion fruit industry has been developing and growing. Since 2021, Menghai County has taken Manlu Village, Mengsong Township, as the central point, radiating to drive the formation of the passion fruit industry chain in various townships in Menghai County. The planting area of enthusiasm fruit has reached 20,800 mu, the production area has reached 18,746 mu, and the output has reached 9022 tons so far.
