There is no single cooking time that fits fresh baby pods, large whole pods and frozen rounds. Size, maturity, prior processing, the amount added to the pan and the finished dish all affect the result. For packaged frozen okra, follow the manufacturer's cooking instructions first. Start with tender pods and the right cut
Tenderness starts with the raw material. A young okra pod has a relatively tender wall and small seeds; a mature pod can become fibrous even when it is not especially long. Check one of the thicker representative pods, particularly around the shoulder near the stem. A fork or knife should enter the wall without meeting a tough, fibrous resistance. Cut a sample open if needed to inspect the centre. The pod should be cooked through and pleasant to eat while still holding the shape required by the dish. An outer surface that bends easily does not necessarily tell you what is happening in the thickest part.
With rounds, inspect several pieces rather than one small end slice. Look for tender walls, a cooked centre and an acceptable amount of intact structure. Pieces that shred during a gentle lift may be beyond the texture wanted for a separate side dish, even if they remain suitable for a thick soup. The endpoint should describe the application: intact rounds in a mixed vegetable dish need a different appearance from okra intended to blend into a sauce.
Write the method as a short sequence that another cook can repeat: use the specified product and batch weight, bring the water to the required state, add the okra, follow the cooking instructions, check representative pieces, and drain promptly. Include whether the timer starts at addition or after the water recovers. This small detail is especially important for frozen loads and helps explain otherwise puzzling variation between batches.
Do not confuse a blanching schedule with a finished cooking method. Blanching is a preparation step used for particular processing purposes; its duration and endpoint are not automatically adequate for serving the product. A frozen ingredient may have been blanched before freezing and still require cooking. Why boiled okra releases mucilage
Okra contains mucilage, a naturally occurring material that gives its cooking liquid a slippery or thickened quality. Plan the draining equipment before the pot is ready. A full colander that cannot empty freely can leave the lower pieces sitting in hot water while the upper pieces cool. Separate yield records from subjective comments. Weighing the prepared, drained product gives a useful basis for portion costing, while observations such as wall tenderness, broken pieces and liquid release explain quality. Use the same weighing and drainage method for each comparison. A low quoted price per frozen kilogram is only one part of the decision if the kitchen needs more labour, longer cooking or a larger portion to achieve the intended plate.

An earlier approval remains useful evidence, but it describes the conditions under which that sample was actually evaluated.
