Frozen Romanesco supply for commercial buyers

We supply frozen Romanesco spiral florets for foodservice, vegetable blends and prepared meals. We match floret size, stem proportion and broken-tip tolerance to the appearance your finished product needs.

Pointed tips break before the rest of a floret looks damaged; long pale stems can dominate a portion. We compare size, stem proportion, yellowing and loose crumbs on a packed sample, then check the appearance after your heating step. Tell us how you plan to use the florets, and we will help settle a suitable grade.

Product forms

Frozen spiral florets

Our main form is loose frozen florets with pointed green heads and attached pale stems. We agree a size range, stem limit and allowance for loose tips or crumbs.

Whole-head reference

The caliper photo shows raw heads before separation. It helps discuss starting size, but does not depict the frozen item. Whole frozen heads would need a separate sample and quotation.

Grade by application

Fuller spirals may suit plated sides; smaller florets may suit blends. We approve each proposed grade on its own frozen sample.

Purchasing risks and acceptance checks

Spiral tips break in handling.

We count damaged tips and loose fragments in a packed frozen sample after normal handling. The allowed share reflects the final presentation.

Receiving staff can reject a carton that will not deliver the expected outline.

Size or stem proportion varies.

We measure florets and stems separately and compare the range after the buyer's heating cycle. Oversized stems and undersized crumbs receive distinct limits.

More even portions and a useful heating trial.

Yellowing or dark tissue weakens color.

We compare green tips and pale stems with the approved sample, separating normal stem color from yellowed heads or damage.

A visible reject standard both teams can apply.

Frost or clumps disrupt portioning.

We review drainage and frozen packing for the lot, then open a handled carton to check separation, surface ice and crushed pieces.

Preparation and frozen processing

  1. Head selection. We select heads suited to the requested floret grade. The whole-head image illustrates raw size assessment, not a finished frozen SKU.
  2. Separation and trim. We cut florets with the required stem proportion. Rough separation fractures tips; heavy trimming creates too many crumbs. We check the resulting size range.
  3. Cleaning and preparation. We remove visible defects and foreign matter. We verify washing and any heat treatment against the production record for the proposed SKU.
  4. Drain and freeze. We examine packed florets for clumps, excess ice, crushed stems and loose tips. A fresh floret cannot predict all frozen-handling effects.
  5. Sort and pack. We check color, shape, weight, seal and batch mark against the approved sample. A receiving concern can then be traced to the packed lot.

Quality control

We inspect tips, stems and crumbs separately. A sound spiral with an oversized stem may fail a plated-side grade; controlled smaller pieces may suit a blend. Yellowing, dark damage and foreign material remain separate rejects. The packed sample defines the agreed balance.

A buyer trial should compare outline, stem tenderness and water release after the intended heating step. Requested reports or production records must apply to the actual batch; appearance alone does not prove a processing step.

Packing and private label

We set liner, fill level and carton strength around the floret grade. Compression can create crumbs even when the sorting sample looks sound, so we inspect a packed sample after handling.

For private label, the ingredient name, image, weight, artwork and marks must describe frozen florets. The whole-head photo must not become the declared finished form.

Documents and traceability

Our specification names frozen Romanesco florets and records the size, stem, tip, color and crumb limits. The batch reference connects the approved sample with the cartons; invoice and packing list describe that delivered floret SKU.

We discuss requested inspection or test records for the actual lot and market. Certification or special claims are checked before use.

Frozen storage and delivery

We check carton seals, condition and lot marks before frozen loading. At receipt, clumping, frost and fragments can be compared with the approved packed sample.

Frequently asked questions

Are the whole Romanesco heads the frozen product?

No. The whole-head image is a raw-material size reference. The offered form discussed here is frozen spiral florets.

How do you judge broken spiral tips?

We count tip damage and loose pieces in a packed frozen sample. The acceptable share depends on the buyer's presentation or blend.

Can Romanesco use a cauliflower size grade?

We set a separate Romanesco floret and stem standard. Its pointed spiral tips have a different breakage concern.

Why is stem proportion specified separately?

A long pale stem changes portion appearance and may heat differently from the tip. We assess the two parts separately in the buyer's trial.

What happens to loose crumbs?

We set a limit for small fragments in the chosen grade. A blend may tolerate more than a plated-side program.

How is yellowing assessed?

We compare tips and cut faces with the approved lot reference. Pale stem tissue is judged separately from yellowed heads.

Can a smaller cut be supplied for a medley?

We can discuss it against a separate sample. Availability and size limits are confirmed before quotation.

Does the frozen sample predict the heated appearance?

Only partly. We recommend a trial in the buyer's exact heating process to check tip retention and stem tenderness.

Is blanching included?

The actual production record must confirm any blanching and cooling. We do not infer a treatment from appearance.

How is clumping checked?

We open a packed carton after representative frozen handling. Excess frost and fused pieces are compared with the agreed sample.

Can the florets join a mixed container?

We review carton support, pallet space and lot identification after the order mix is known. The Romanesco grade remains traceable.

How do we request a quotation?

Tell us the intended application, destination and preferred pack. We will help settle floret grade and the remaining details.

Discuss your sourcing requirement

Tell us where Romanesco will be used. We will compare a frozen floret sample with your heating, portioning and packing needs before quoting.
